Next.js vs WordPress: Which Should Your Business Use?

A no-hype comparison to help you pick the right foundation for your website or app — based on your goals, not trends.

Both are excellent tools. They just solve different problems, and choosing the wrong one is a mistake you pay for slowly, over years. I help clients make this decision every month, so here's the honest framework I actually use — no tribalism, no trend-chasing.

Choose WordPress when…

  • Your team needs to publish content constantly, without a developer
  • You want a vast ecosystem of plugins and themes to draw on
  • You're building a blog, a brochure site, or a straightforward store
  • Budget is tight and you need to launch quickly

Choose Next.js when…

  • You're building a web app with genuinely custom functionality
  • Performance and SEO are mission-critical to the business
  • You expect to scale to serious traffic or complex features
  • You want a fast, app-like experience your competitors can't match

And sometimes, the honest answer is both

My favourite setup for content-heavy businesses is a headless one: WordPress quietly running the content in the background, and a Next.js front end delivering it at blazing speed. Your team keeps the editor they love; your visitors get an experience that feels instant. You stop having to choose between 'easy to manage' and 'fast.'

The best stack isn't the trendiest one. It's the one your team can still maintain long after I'm gone.

If you're staring at this decision and not sure which side you fall on, tell me about your project. Ten minutes on a call usually makes the answer obvious.
